Twende Pamoja SACCO — Tanzanian diaspora savings and credit cooperative society

Build a financial institution for Tanzanians living abroad — one that actually functions across borders.

Twende Pamoja — Swahili for "Let's Go Together" — is a Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (SACCO) I co-founded. We brought together about 38 Tanzanians living in different parts of the world: members in Kenya, Europe, North America, and beyond. Today members are saving and borrowing, and we have built a community around something concrete and shared.

I am probably most proud of this one. Not because it is the largest, but because of what it required. The biggest challenge was internationalising what is essentially a locally registered cooperative society. Different countries have different regulations, banking systems, and expectations. It required patience, persistence, and countless conversations. Navigating that complexity taught me more about financial institutions, cross-border trust, and the gap between regulation and reality than I expected.
